Mozambique is the 7th poorest country in the world. Today Mozambique has one of the fastest growing economies yet remains one of the poorest nations, with one of the highest illiteracy rate in the world.Mozambique’s rapid economic expansion over the past 20 years has had only a moderate impact on poverty reduction, and the geographical distribution of poverty remains largely unchanged.
Community development directors Luke and Kristen Rider live alongside the local fishermen and their families, sharing life with one another and working to provide opportunities for them to transform and change their own lives. CCO focuses on Mozambican and South African artisans gaining access to the global market and socially conscious buyer.
CCO ARTISANS & JOB CREATION MODEL
CCO's model is to encourage TRADE not AIDE. If you employ, you will empower. They work with certified Fair tare community projects, where materials are ethically sourced and artists receive a fair-trade rate. In turn the customer receives a unique, beautiful product that comes with a truly transformative story that echoes the soul, rhythm and vibrancy of coastal Mozambique.
A simple purchase means a woman or man can now provide food for their family, or put a door on their hut to protect their family. Transformation truly takes place for an artist and his family.
Our artisans range from carpenters, masonries, weavers, welders, sewers and carvers. Some of these artisans are dealing with special needs such as physical disabilities and HIV. With the products they create they are able to contribute to the family income and work within their home environment. CCO provides a market for the products that the artists produce, and follow a fair trade system of payment.
